Chapter 284 Rough Summary/Synopsis

For maximum enjoyability, please play the Dragon Quest Overture from Page 3 onwards.

Spoilers beware, and remember, this is not intended to be a full page for page translation.  This is only so that you have an idea of what is happening alongside the visuals

I have no guarantee that these are 100% accurate

Page 1:

“Yuuki, this is Momoka, whom you’ll be teaming up with today.  She’s a voice actor, did you know?”

“I’m looking forward to this!  Nice to meet you Yuuki-kun!”  He nods in response

As a refresher, if Yuuki opens his mouth and talks by the time 3-C’s event ends, the Director will acknowledge their intent and reconsider the Academy Modification Plan.  If he doesn’t, as punishment for his rebellion, Fujisaki Yuusuke will be expelled.

“Yeah, understood”  “Please come into the classroom”

Chapter 284: Last Dance (5)

Page 2 – 3:

The 4 teams that have entered are astounded by the classroom-turned-castle

“Oh … how did this happen.  It has awakened after all.  The power of darkness!!” said King Otabocha

Queen Dai Queen asks what troubles the king.  It would appear the Evil Witch, whom was sealed in the ancient war, has awakened.  What should they do?

“Then let’s have our citizens fight, and during that time we’ll take the city’s jewels and run away.”  “No, no!  We can’t run, Dai Queen.”  (“The queen is terrible, lol”)

Looks like the audience likes Himeko’s Scenario

The King however, tells everyone not to worry!  Legend has told that a true hero will appear forth and vanquish the power of darkness!  Let us search for the Veritable Vegetable!  (ie the hero)

And … the Dragon Quest Overture plays.

Page 4 – 5:

Soldier Touigarashi now presents each of the 4 teams with their Stampsheet.  After departing from this city, just go to the different Checkpoints throughout the school in the designated order and you’ll arrive at the Witch’s lair.  If you wish to quit in the middle of your travels, just notify one of their staff.

King Otabacho tells the teams to first go see the Fortune Teller in Green Village.  Since this will be a treacherous journey, they must refresh and energise themselves beforehand!

On cue, the teams are presented with their first challenge: each team are handed 8 cans, and whichever team can stack all 8 of them on top of each will be presented with their map and can start their journey.  The cans must stand for 5 seconds after letting go.

“Do your best everyone!”

“Be careful, Yuuki-kun!”

Momoka and Yuuki finish and receive their map.  They’re not sure where Green Village is, but they run off anyway.

Page 6 – 7:

Checkpoint 1: Building A, 1st Floor, in front of storeroom

“You have come travellers.  I am the Fortune Teller Cabtain.  What is your request?”

Momoka asks her what they should do in order to defeat the Evil Witch.  Cabtain is about to consult the crystal ball, when suddenly she fell hungry.

She would like the travellers before her to go to Peaman’s Breadhouse and get her a sandwich.  She is very concise about what she wants in the sandwich.  “Are you picking your choices at Subway!!”

Checkpoint 2: Building B, 3rd Floor, Corridor

The sandwich costs 5 million yen?  Who would bring that much!?

Since they don’t have enough, Papurin of the Breadhouse will have to report them for theft … just kidding.  (The Director recognises her as the lady of the Unyuu Group)

She would also like to assist them with their quest, but since she can’t leave her post, Momoka and Yuuki will have to make the sandwich themselves.

Cabtain’s sandwich had a lot of detail, but fortunately Yuuki is very reliable.

Page 8 – 9:

Returning to Checkpoint 1, Cabtain is satisfied with their sandwich.

On with the fortune.  In order to defeat the Evil Witch, the Holy Sword is necessary.  Go talk to the musical couple living outside the village, they’ll be sure to have more information acquired from their travels.

Checkpoint 3: Building A, 4th Floor, entrance to the Roof

Here, Singer Kabuta and Musician Nasuvisual invite the duo to perform alongside them to soothe away the weariness of their travels.

Afterwards, Kabuta explains there’s a wandering Adventurer who knows more about the world than they do.  S/he is currently on a visit nearby, but she’s not sure what s/he looks like.  There’s an artist nearby, she would know.

Page 10 – 12:

Checkpoint 4: 1st Floor, in front of the stalls

Momoka and Yuuki are told to draw a portrait of each other.  Doesn’t matter if it doesn’t come out good, just put their best effort.  In the meantime, Artist Toman will draw the Adventurer.

And here it is.  “Is that a Yokai!?”

Kidding!  Here is what she really looks like, it’s a copy that her prince drew.  “Toman-san just completely ignored her universe.”

After a long search, the team has located Adventurer Shimanegi, AKA the wandering Checkpoint 5.  She points them to the “island” nearby.  The Great Sage resides there, and he holds the Holy Sword that can vanquish the Evil Witch.  Go take a look.

“We’re finally getting the Holy Sword.  We’re not far from the battle with the Last Boss!”

Checkpoint 6: Entrance to the gymnasium

“You fools!!”  Great Sage Mitsubaki admonishes the team for thinking he’ll just hand over the Holy Sword to anyone who asks for it.  Try asking him again after completing the Trials set out by his 3 disciples.

  • Scholar Eringman sets a Trial of Knowledge: using the pair of scales, find the lightest of the 8 lemons
  • Fighter Ninzou sets a Trial of Athletics: do some push-ups, 15 for male and 7 for female
  • Monk Uriida sets a Trial of Luck: team members take turns to roll the lottery until a red ball comes out

Upon the completion of a Trial, the team members will be stamped with a Gold Seal on their forearm

Page 13 – 14:

Final Checkpoint: Entrance to the Cultural Festival Building

“The holder of the Holy Sword Asparagalibur has appeared!”  “The Last Boss’ aura is no joke!”

In order to defeat Evil Witch Reicorn, one team member holds the sword and is blindfolded, while their partner uses their voice to direct the other to move their sword along the pathway.  When finished, one swing and the Witch is slayed.

‘Go, Yuuki-kun!!”  “Stop …”

“You did it!!”

Page 15 – 16:

“Thank you!  The kingdom’s peace has been preserved!  You people are true heroes!”

Momoka and Yuuki had the Top Score of their group, so as prove of being true heroes, they each receive a Veritable Vegetable medal made from aluminium foil.

“Congratulations for clearing!!”

“That was great, Nee-san!  It really felt like I was on an adventure!”

“That’s great!  I’m glad you said that!”

Page 17 – 19:

It’s almost time for the Cultural Festival to wrap up.  Yuuki still hasn’t said a word.

From watching them, the Director thinks they’ve given their all to express their thoughts.  The roles of their event have been assigned based on the actor’s interests, and they were successful in showcasing the significance of when the singular individualities come together.

Furthermore, each of the Checkpoints was designed to let participants express their own individuality, putting enjoyability as their top priority.

In all fairness, what they presented were truly rich in content.

However, he had never considered revising his Modification Plan, which was why he proposed such a disadvantageous condition for them.

“I know that Yuuki will not talk”

What a pity, 3rd Year Class C.  But given the high quality of their event, he will withdraw Fujisaki’s expulsion.

“Wait.  Victory still hasn’t been decided yet”

“I will make Yuuki talk”  “What!?”

“Yuuki.  I already know, about your secret…”

Oh, this chapter was epic indeed, I really didn’t need the DQ Overture given that I still have it present in my memory (thansk to my brother playing DQVIII recently).

So yeah. I loved the pun names so much xD. I hope if they are somewhat conserved the same way once TrinityBakuma gets into this in so many months from now n_n because they fit soooo much with the students’ names.

Hoping that the next rough summary comes out earlier too, given that the guys at JojoHot already scanlated it (and given the strong rumor that the series is ending in the next few weeks, this is something I think is going to happen again). Given that the RAWs aren’t out yet, I can’t REALLY give it a try to make a very amateurish translation of certain panels, so I still don’t get completely the clue in the chapter besides general things that I have read before(like I will post them here, of course, it ruins somehow the experience (?).

It’s exciting, in a way of seeing it. But sad in the other… So very sad (and yet somewhat frustrating :/)

Me too, I liked the pun names a lot, everyone fit their part so well

Thanks for the heads up that Jojohot have scanlated 285.

I will not spoil it, at least not here, not yet. I’ll post something on the OneManga thread soon.

What I will say is this: Yuuki’s problem, I got it wrong. Several people on the internet got the right idea, but it was too simplistic for my liking.
But what really caught me off guard though, was I did not expect Shinohara to approach the idea the way that he did.

Also, the mood of this chapter, I concede, chances of this really being our Last Dance has raised again.

You know. I wasn’t expecting it to be so simple, it could be seen simple… but it is not? I’m quite a bit shocked but… really good for Shinohara to have handled like he did.

Now, again, at least this is also supporting all my whole, ‘look Switch, Yûki’s problem could have been quite a big deal… now it’s time to you to know what you can do about yours’, thing that fortunately is around the corner and what not. (Also, I registered in the OneManga forums, but wasn’t that ready to post something like this, would do it later, at least we have so much material to keep talking about until the end does reach out in the English-speaking fandom).
